Beginning the spring semester

Hello! My name is Megan Oytas and I am a journalism and political science double-major at San Diego State University. I also write for the sports section at The Daily Aztec and am looking to become a sports writer in the future.

Some of my interests include reading, writing, watching sports (mainly baseball and hockey) and finding new places to eat. Recently, I have been getting into photography as well.

For JMS 550, I hope to learn more about publishing works on my own and what encompasses a fully-fledged out story with multimedia aspects included. In the past, I only have experience with the writing portion of an article and any photos or other media that is added to it was taken care of by someone else.

My goals for this class are to learn how to shoot an effective package to accompany the story, take better pictures that encompass the idea of the story, and continue to improve my website and formatting skills. I do not have any experience with making a video package, so that is one area I can improve on a lot. I am also taking JMS 435 on photojournalism in conjunction with this class, so that can help me with getting better pictures for a story. I also look forward to building on my skills with publishing on my own website and getting familiar with several other sites, such as WordPress.
