JMS 550 Reflection
So far in JMS 550, I have learned a lot of things. One of the biggest takeaways I’ve had since the start of the semester is the amount of work completing a full-length article with accompanying visual elements is. In previous classes, the article would be the only thing we published, maybe alongside some photos. But with the video requirement and other multimedia elements attached to the story, I’ve learned how much planning and work goes behind putting all of it together and tying it in with the story.
For my article, I’ve had to contact multiple bookstores during a busy time of the year and organize different interviews with the managers or owners of the stores. When it comes to organizing the video portion of the final assignment, the article from Week 7 “The Elements of a Good Video” had a lot of important things, such as planning out the story, knowing the target audience and putting the effort in. In terms of actually making the video, the LinkedIn Learning tutorial for Adobe Premiere Pro was extremely helpful, especially when making the practice video, since I had no prior experience with the software. The LinkedIn Learning tutorial for Audacity was also very helpful because I had no prior experience with that software either and the tutorial broke it down very simply. Those three are probably the most important and helpful things I’ve learned while completing my project.
